IMO this more realistic style did more harm then good for a lot of characters. Especially hairwise, where the old ones looked like a stylised depiction of natural (even if ridiculous looking) hairdos, where is now they seem to be fighting near hairspray factory the whole time. And don’t get me started on that patchy body hair.

ＲＹＵが特にいい動き。ちゃんと重心とっている。ガイルは５の方がいいな。ボクサーっぽくなくなった。ボクサーかどうかは知らないけど。キャミィはモデルはいいけど動きは２Ｘが一番良かった。ブランカの肩揺らすのはすごくいいアレンジ。全体に５で機械的だったのが６で人間っぽく感じられるようになってますね。ただ本田は構えも顔も前の方がいい。力士らしさが失われた。ダルシムは５でもやりすぎ６でもっとやり過ぎ人間じゃない。

Does SF6 use 4K or 2K character textures? It’s easy for them since they can merge all Character Textures into 1 or 2 text.
But Im making a game with modular clothing. Each armor part (6x per body) can have multiple Materials, which means 4x Textures.
Plus the main body mesh is like 6 Materials (24x Textures). Some Tex are 1K and already I had to increase the Texture mem pool. So Im wondering if clothes should be 2K or 4K, and just make users have higher RAM specs?
PS to game devs, the texture that creates the most detail is a Normal tex (creates a bumpy surface on the Base tex). I haxed some of my 1K Base mats by giving them 1K Normal pattern textures, which really amplifies the lighting/shadows = detail/skin pores.

The whole CAPCOM & other party design teams that worked on Street Fighter 6 did an amazing, immaculate, & incredible job. Not only the combat system is like every street fighter titles in one. All the characters look like what they supposed to be culturally. RYU, HONDA looks like JAP warriors. Chun is a beautiful China woman. KEN, GUILE, Luke looks American bred. Zangief a titan Russian. Deejay definitely a Jamaican rasta fighter. Cammy, a hot British assassin. Juri, the hot, pop culture Chinese or my opinion, Korean cause her style is Tai kwan do. Blanka The Man Gorilla acrobatic beast from Brazil. & Dhalsim The Monk demi god Indian. SF6 is pretty much Street Fighter 2, but PERFECTED! Stylish, Characteristic, & Traditional.

Most of the new models are “too bulky”, even for heavyweight fighting standards.
A huge graphical jump in just a one game. But I think the anime style shading fits better with the series. (Except DeeJay was better in SF 6) Both games have done a great job that I can’t pick a one over the other.
I miss the hard cast shadows
One thing I hate is that they removed a lot of muscle mass on both the male & female characters in SF6. Ryu & Cammie stand out especially. E Honda a bit as well.

I think Guile and Juri are the only ones not clearly superior in SF6. Their SF5 versions still look good in comparison, but the rest of them are a huge improvement in both design and graphics quality.

In my opinion, SV6 is more realistic, for example in the modeling of chun li; the expressions and the shape of the body look more natural as in real life, I also see that the feet have been reduced, compared to SF5 they look more overloaded and rougher in their extremities…

I lot of people have probably mentioned Zangief already, but I love how this layer of body fat not only makes him look more realistic, but it also makes his actual muscle flexing (such as in his win cutscene) more noticeable than it would be if he was like his SFV version of all sculpted muscle.

Capcom had definetely perfected their exagerated human proportion art style in SF6. everyone looks natural yet the expressive proportions and facial expression are absolutely spot on.
SFV was much more pleasing visually, all of characters were exaggerated and had so much personality in them, meanwhile in 6 the realistic style just takes away everything from them
One detail I like about Street Fighter 6 is how much less tense and more relaxed the characters look in their fighting stances. Like they’re more experienced and less nervous about being in a fight, as testimony to their growth in skill.
I’m not a huge Street Fighter fan, but to me, I rather prefer the look of the newest one. As an outsider, it seems odd to me that SF V and 4 take the cartoony look of the original game and interpret it very literally for 3D. I think this game (SF 6) does a better job of keeping some of the cartoony elements but feeling a little more natural/realistic looking. The hair and skin, in particular, stand out in this aspect.

I honestly prefer the older models & designs. They had more character. I like the lighting and textures on the new ones, but many of them look like “Make Zangief in Soul Calibur! Make Ryu in Dragon’s Dogma!” generator cosplays.

Street Fighter needs a new look. Like what “Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse” did in animation – contrasting the Disney look. SF4, SF5, and now SF6 all look pretty similar. I seriously hope they go back to 2D or a combination of 2D and 3D. Something. Anything. Mix it up, Capcom!

The characters faces look more pleasing in SF5. More realism often means less pretty. Luckily, they’re still not realistic enough to look downright ugly (looking at you, Dragon Age Inquisition).
It interesting seeing them side by side. You can really see how when you move into realism some character designs don’t work without alterations.
Kinda shows you why anime into live action doesn’t work when they keep the anime character designs too close to the anime in live action space.

When they first announced Tekken x Street Fighter I thought, there’s no way they can make the Street Fighter Characters not look weird in the Tekken style and I still thought the same during SFV. SF6 now makes me believe it can work, I can see these character models in the Tekken 8 engine. I love everything about this game.

And it’s disappointing the lack of leg and thigh muscles on Cammy in VI.
BUT it’s good that boobs are not balloons in VI like they are in V.

Both games look good. I personally prefer 5, 6 looks like they couldn’t decide on realism vs. style so they… didn’t make a decision, they just went all over the place and landed on an unsatisfying in-between. And in 6 there’s too much bloom kind of washing everything over.
I really like the muscle animations and stuff though in 6. It’s definitely technically impressive.

I kinda like the new one but it’s complicated it looks like they went for a more realistic vs Cartoon-ish look and some of the character designs look a little off in the process.. The 3D street fighter games visually looked a lot worse than those original 2d games. It looked so bad that I’d prefer cell shaded graphics or high res 2d graphics instead.
At least SF6’s 3d graphics looks digestible. The character models and the area backgrounds still look too contrasted in visual style though.

I don’t understand the obsession in the last 3 games with making every character look like Rambo. Everyone is so stocky with he-man physiques. I mean look at Ken’s feet… what is that size 100??? . On SFII Ken and Ryu were relatively normal build guys.. not to mention Guile, Vega etc. not everyone should have a body like Zangeif!
They gave Cammy a big forehead and made her a bit more skinny, i prefer her more muscular body from SF5 version.

Something cool to notice is that cammy is not sexualized as she was in SF5, her body now fit more her style of fight and bodyshape, BUUUUT, this happened because of the transition between styles. SF6 history brings more seriousness to the characters, given that all of them (or nearly) grown up as a person, SF6 character design shows so much about how they are different from the past and how they are in another page of their own history. Well, at least for me.

What kind of blindness would call it an improvement? They save money to use a graphic engine (which they developed for RE) that doesn’t fit the style of the game at all. It feels like you put a realistic furry on a Mickey Mouse. In cutscenes where camera angle and lighting setting are fixed, the character looks good. However, in actually gameplay and close up shot like this, it is totally garbage. Every frame looks like an unfinished CGI from a BTS documentary of some film.

I honestly don’t like the realistic art style of SF6. I like alpha, 4, and 5 better. Could you imagine if they ever drop SFA4 they did it the exact same art style straight out of the anime movie? I mean that’s how alpha got it’s anime theme. It would be a homage.

SF 6 is incredible. The art style is better than anything in the past . As much as I liked 4, this beats it. Something about 5 put me off , I couldnt get into the game, but SF 6 with the graphics, the fighting and the base roster is just fantastic.
You can tell the devs cared the most about Cammy in 6, because the rest look bad. Sure- they have more realistic shaders rather than the cartoony look of V, but the models look bad.
Cammys bra size went back down to normal all of the girls shrank down to a more natural look. Also much more lifelike

Some of the characters in SF6 look better some look creepy, there are improvments in SF6 like body movement and proportions, but some of them have really weird faces and expressions. And I dont understand why they made Chun -Li’ s and Cammy’s boobs smaller, especially Chun-Li, her hips ar also much wider…I preferd them like in SF5 a bit more stylized, this way they have more personality.

technically, sf6 looks better in many ways but… alot of the charm from sf5 is gone. i think alot of it has to do with the proportions of fighters’ bodies. in sf5 they were beautifully sylized in an sf3 sort of way, in 6 its this weird semi-realistic style where they just look like they have tiny heads. still though, the muscles look cool and the detail is quite impressive especially in the hair and faces.
I feel like characters in 6 are hit or miss. Ryu for example has a very sickly look. While Luke just looks better overall. Cammy has a more lean body, but her face looks better in SF V.
One thing they all have in common in SF 6 is a weird shine reminiscent of MVCI and desaturated colors. I much prefer the matte clay-like look, subsurface scattering and vibrant colors of SF V.
SF6 looks really good, but at the same time i think that the realism make them look kinda generic, (some characters more than others) i prefer the stylished cartoon design
6 has better faces but I still prefer the 5 models.
I like that they are starting to work on character changes. That is, with a more realistic appearance of the physiognomy of the characters themselves. For example Zangief, great job.
Kinda surprised how I prefer sf5 character structure a million times more. Something is really off with the musculature in sf, check out guile delts and triceps in 6 vs 5 or, Cammy having no quads and juri at 3:55 with no glutes at all.

The character models still look ugly to me. Not in terms of graphical fidelity, but that’s kind of the point. Ugly models with fluent animations and high details. It ends up looking incredibly uncanny.

Still vastly prefer the designs for V. Sure 6 looks more realistic and there are definite technical advances with texturing and such. But I’ve always preferred an animated style to Street Fighter. The colors pop way more as well. This just starts to remind me of Virtua Fighter.

The SFV poses are way more natural but SFVI improved on the flow of the anatomy, animation and skillset. They MASSIVELY improved in models(See Guile, Blanka, Zangief, Dee Jay comparison as an example..) and gameplay. However, they did tone down on the excessiveness on the muscles for the female characters to make them more feminine. You can see this with how Chun-Li thighs and waist are more highlighted with less muscle mass than SFV. For fan service purposes, they disappointingly added more panty shots in SFVI. This extends to how Cammy’s “classic” outfit got a bigger butt with even less clothes in the back. If you compare her graphical sprites with SFVI you’ll easily see that it isn’t 1:1 outfit. It’s an upgrade for sex appeal.
While I love the sweat and dirt mechanics on the new game I prefer the Cammy and Chun li from the previous one

Pretty incredible how everything is a massive upgrade. I love all the graphical updates, the new art style, the more realistic approach and detail in facial animations. And by far my favorite changes are the care in the characterizations in all of these characters. Each ending screen just feels like it fits with their personalities so much more. Luke’s end screen where he’s falling back in SFV, feels generic and boring. In SFVI he points at the camera like a social media influencer hype boy, and seems genuinely excited. SFV Juri just jumps and does some spins. SFVI Juri goes straight for her phone, and irreverently sits on her opponent. SFV’s Dee Jay idle animation is just a simple boxing bob. SFVI Dee Jay has a bit of a samba sway, highlighting that he’s very musical and comfortable with dance. In SFVI, each moment, facial expression, end animation, oozes with character and I absolutely love it.

Honda’s is very impressive, specifically the way the paint looks around the eyes. The eyes in general look more realistic in SF6. If they bring in Shadoloo characters, I’m interested to see what Vega would look like, since they botched his face also in SFV.
Yeah the graphical fidality looks mutch better in SF6… But Design wise i do really prefer the SV5 models.

Thank you for sharing. There are things I like and also dislike about what Capcom did. For some of the characters; even though they’re more realistic, they lost a sense of charm about them. Some of the characters; though fighters, are too stoic and lost some personality. They’re victory poses weren’t as good either. Also what’s up with the scars on Luke’s face? That’s just stupid. Also I like his design better, but not his outfit. The first one was more UFC styled. I don’t like Juri’s design either. Blanka’s color scheme is better, but not his look. Idk. These are just a few criticisms I have. DJ and Ken come off a bit more serious as well. Both of them should be a little more lighthearted. Anyway I shouldn’t be nitpicking so much as I haven’t played it yet.😅 These are just some of my thoughts.

Some people may say: “Is it better because it’s more realistic?”. No. Street Fighter 6 just looks better beyond the graphics. The designs of the characters in SF6 are somehow more subtle but more exaggerated at the same time. Also, I never liked SF5’s plastic look. That’s why I prefer SF4 over 5 because at least in 4 they were going for this “sumi” or eastern brush painting look.

That Honda intro animation is like naught and day, all it took was a more updated character model and more direction in terms of animation and camera movement, there’s not much different in terms of what’s happening but the way it’s presented is so much more pleasing to watch. Some characters feel improved, while others look kinda ridiculous between installments.
I like the majority of the characters in 6, however. Namely, I love the presentation in their end-screens.
It’s apparent that characters like Luke, for instance, look better with a more stylized carton appearance, and ironically, characters like Deejay who were oversaturated with exaggerated aesthetic feel much better toned down.

I might be completely alone here, but I think the SFV models are better overall. Something about the graphics and detailing in those models look more refined and timeless to me while there’s a bit of uncanny valley on the newer ones and these graphics are probably gonna look dated in about 5 years. And i know some people are saying the newer ones are better because they have “realistic proportions” honestly it makes the characters look less visually interesting. Would you wanna play a dragon ball z game where all the characters look more human and realistic? I don’t think so.

I really hated how SF6 looked at first, but it’s grown on me, Ken looks way better than his SF5 counterpart, while Guile and Ryu are just the perfect switch to a stylized realism. I do think some of the other characters look better in their 5 iterations though, Cammy, Juri, Blanka, and Zangief, maybe because they lean towards the more cartoony side in their designs.

The more cartoonish finish and exaggerated proportions is what gave the designs more personality. Including the saturation of the colors.

You will say is 6 all the way but there are a few of V that I like more….just a few……overall 6 did an amazing re-imagine and in details, renders, all looks amazing, but there are just a couple I think V did a much better job….
1-Ryu: I like the face in 6 more, but how his Gi looks is weird, too realistic and not looks as well and 5 looks, so this one if was just the face (which I LOVE is a perfect rendition of his SSFII portrait), if was just that, then 6, but because the Gi looks so weird I go with 5.
2-Chunli: Is NEAR PERFECT….but just 1 detail make me like 5 more and is the COLORS, the blue looks so good in 5, the colors in 6 looks muted for some reason, that blue don’t pop at all, and the render of 5 to be is perfect classic Chun.
3-Cammy: This is HARD, but again 5……..why…..a few things, the colors again are so bright and perfect, in 6 are too muted, also I personally like they remove the camo paint of her legs in V, they added back in 6, and kinda looks busy to me…..and just 1 other detail is the FACE, I think it too punky in 6 she looks gorgeous in V, also I like more her iddle animation in 5, but overall rendering in 6 is superior, the CAKE is SUPERIOR XD….the jiggles so…..is kinda a TIE but…slight edge for 5 to me, love the 2, but just slighly on V.
That’s it, everyone else looks soo much better of slight better……but both games did a great job in the designs is just some problems with HAIR that SFV never fixed (banana hair Ken will forever hunt us) but 6 did perfectly great….love how Blanka, Guile, Gief and Dhalsim looks in 6 and they looks good in V but man they shine in 6.

Luke had a really nice glow up. I hated his design in V, and I didn’t even want to bother with 6 when they announced him as the new face of the franchise. I typically love eccentric designs, but he felt out of place, and the design just looked bizarre with the eccentric colors, the tattoos, the nose bandage, and the hair design. However, in 6, he looks like a normal young adult who is a bit of a punk. Everything from his clothing design and hair to his facial expressions has had a significant improvement. I’m shocked they managed to improve him so much and I actually like the new design

God sf6 feels like a masterclass on character modeling. All the models look so good and the small physics detail are nuts. The way how the muscles shake and giggle. And how they mangage to very accurately simulate muscle tension and veins popping when muscles flex. Also more silly but its so cool to see the men boobs giggle and not just the woman’s.

something that doesn’t come into play here is that the outro’s for SFV are eerily silent through most of it with almost no characters making any sounds or sound effects until the very last moment and its incredibly jarring.
compare that to all the small bits and sound effects like guiles outro where you can hear all the clicks and such from his watch to his comb and his hair being brushed alongside the music synching at the right moment at the end.
stuff like that is how presentation gets that OOMPH factor. just look at the side by side of Zangief and the level of style and care is staggering compared to SFV.

DeeJay is SF6 is a massive upgrade to me. Him in SF4 and older games looks like some weird shady dude with that evil slant eyes unnerving grin on his face all the time. But in SF6, he’s now a genuine friendly cheery music loving dancer who just want to have fun with everyone, and his “grin” is more of a smile and pleasing to look at. Also the somewhat realistic head shape in 6 is way better than the strangely stylized in 4.

I had no idea they reused Luke’s idle animation, not that it’s bad. Nice way to save time. I find it funny how people get upset over things like that, why remake an entirely new animation, when you already have one that works fine.

It’s hilarious how the hands in SFV are so cartoonishly big. And the irony, SF6 looks like a major upgrade, because SFV looks like vomit… However, MK1 is looking like a marginal upgrade if compared to MK11, because MK11 already looked good, MK1 is a nextgen game, SF6 is crossgen, etc.. all the shenanigans regarding videogames sequels, it’s something interesting

Something that will always appreciate about 5 is how they tried to make some characters feel fleshed out by giving them new stances. It’s a shame that 6 walked back on that. Oh, and the lighting on RE Engine can look pretty weird sometimes.

Most of the models and textures look pretty good in sf6, shame the lighting looks so bad. It actually makes me prefer sf5 visuals overall. Also why do cammy’s legs have no muscle definition?

Am I the only one who thinks that Street Fighter 5 looks amazing? (Except for Kens hair) Imo it looks more sharper and clearer than SF6. I think SF5 visuals aged really well, and still look fantastic to me.

Apart from just the graphics, it’s amazing how much better the character proportions are in SF6. Everyone has relatively normal hand sizes and no more exaggerated giant hands. Gief looks big in SFV but his body and neck looks so stretched. Everyone just looks so much more natural in 6

Both street fight 5 and 6 have very good art styles in my opinion
most of them are better in 6, especially ken. but there are certain stuff that 5 gets right such as consistent idle animations. sf6 everything is mocapped so idle animations get some casual movement which doesnt fit Ryu imo. also cammy idle is terrible in 6

Zangief’s new look fits his personality so much better. There’s a level of toughness on both versions but the old Zangief’s face didn’t match his more uplifting personality, whereas the new one does so perfectly. They really went all out on the characters.

Everyone got new idling animations except Luke, haha. 5’s art style never sat right with me and this video makes it obvious: the faces of several characters just look bad. But I’m glad they fixed all of that on 6.

Plastic surgery really can improve your life
I’m in awe how much the model and proportion has improved. For example, Dee Jay’s face looks very good and realistic, Honda looks more like a Sumo wrestler, Zangief’s torso is much much better, Blanka becomes less gnarly and more monkey-like, Cammy’s lip expression now being an important part of her, that sort of stuff 🙂
The biggest upgrade of all is the facial animation. It’s so much BETTER than 5 and also Ken.

Most of the men have been dramatically improved, artistically the women are a downgrade (not the new ones, Kimberly and Lily look perfectly fine).
They look way more detailed, yes, and creepy. They remind me of the doll-like characters in Star Ocean – The Last Hope. Cammy looks like a sex doll. I like hot women in videogames, but she looks like an uncanny barbie doll.
Facially, the two biggest downgrades imo are Ryu (he looks like a chimpanzee) and Chun Li (she looks too “sharp” and crazier than Juri).

SFV IS SOOO DAMN well modeled, so well built!!! Postures, facial expressions, the characters animations are better on SFV. In term in terms of artistic direction, it’s just a matter of taste. However, the artistic challenge on SF6 is quite difficult, more difficult than on SFV. And I think the street fighter team managed to come up with a convincing result.

I definitely prefer the brighter lime green colour of Cammy’s thong leotard in SFV compared to her darker more subdued coloured and duller swamp green thong leotard in SF6. The colour seems to pop out more and is much more vibrant.

The difference, and of course, the improvement on facial expressions and modelling in general is staggering! Guile hair-brushing animation, E. Honda’s comedic kabuki expression and Dhalsim’s facial creases are now so realistic and aesthetically pleasing to watch.
I really like how Ken is very relaxed in SF5 but in SF6 you can see that while he’s into the fight he’s very agitated in comparison. Wow I didn’t see the small scar cuts on Ryu’s arms it’s amazing detail. Goddamn people talk about Luke’s arms but do you not see how big Guile’s bicep is in 6 compared to 5? Quite like how in 5 they were transitioning from being muscle to be more fat for Honda while 6 is the final transition.
They really fixed it! Good job, Capcom! Respect is earned.
