Honestly AKI ended up feeling quite dissapointing. I expected a completely different kind of character both personality and even design wise when I saw it’s 2D preview, and now seeing her footage in 3D and showing her personality Im finally able to say that Ill totally skip season 1 characters DLC. She’s essentially a venom based Juri personality wise, and Juri’s personality, while I love Juri as a character, her attitude/personality is precisely the thing I dislike about her the most, AKI has exactly THAT part of Juri, but nothing else that make Juri the great and loved character she is. With AKI there’s a lot of things that mislead between what the 2D prevew suggests to what her 3D teaser showcases. Here’s some that I noticed, and I bet Im not the only one that did:

– I expected her to have a cold, almost emotionless personality which is what her 2D picture evokes. In reality she’s just a more polarizing Juri without a single bit of the idea she suggested to be.
– Her eyes felt like they were going to be in a similar way to how Chun-li’s on SF6 looked. Now it turns that they’re red with the “Albino-white-eyelash” thing that constrasts diametrically to the catlike makeup she sugested in 2D.
– She has some claws that makes you feel her gameplay was going to be about poison induced ON THOSE (Since she’s know for being poisonous) but yet the claws are just…. To make you open your mouth to swallow poison pills? WTF? Also why is that your MC would have to even eat those in the story at all?
– Her hair…. Or more like umbrella hairlike hat…. Just…. What is that hairstyle? I expected it to be sort of like sawblade shaped around her head, all aroud it and in the opening on the front that is not continuous that is where her face is which makes sense to be open in that area but now i turns that its all shaved around having the upper part of the hair to be an umbrella like hairstyle? The 2D thing it made you imagine looked truly modern and streetlike but this? It’s like…. Bruh I dont even know how to describe it, it barely fits a scenario like Star Wars.

I could go on with other minor ones but that would be too nitpicky lol. Here’s the thing…. You’re forcing players to buy a 4pack of characters as a DLC to have access AT ALL to ANY of the ones you may like in the pack (Like hey, maybe I would like to buy Akuma but I couldnt give two craps about Ed, but I have to buy Ed too cause otherwise I cant have Akuma) and I was willing to do so just cause I thought AKI looked awesome and Akuma is a nice one too so why not? And actually saw in AKI something relatively fresh for an “evil” character. But yet it turns that she’s essentially Juri cosplaying as a venom doctor but still Juri at the core? Sorry but no. Cause I can already do that in World Tour without paying an enny.

Really wish that with season 2 they improve dramatically on this aspect cause after this. I completely lost interest even with Akuma. Cause what’s offering it’s already in main game and I dont know about you but I refuse to pay half the price of the base game for only 2 characters I kiiiiinda like, when the base game by itself contain content enough to justify the full price tag.

The TMNT crossover makes me wonder if we’ll be getting more out-of-Capcom crossovers in SF6. Capcom’s not exactly a stranger to this sort of thing, what with Monster Hunter in particular getting tons of crazy crossovers over the franchise’s history, plus the SF characters have been making the rounds in plenty of other titles, so this feels like it’s been a long time coming.

As for Aki, I actually liked F.A.N.G. in SF5, mostly because I like poisoning as a video game archetype and thought he was a neat, goofy bastard. So having another character emerge as a retooled version of him was something I was looking forward to, though I want to see Aki’s gameplay before making any real judgments. She’s definitely… intense, though I do have a fondness for mad mfs who just have a crazy demeanor to them (see Jedah and B.B. Hood from Darkstalkers, that new(?) guy who rips his own arms off in the recent MK1 trailer, or hell, even Gengar from Pokken Tournament). If she has that “calm voice/crazy voice” aspect, I might like her even more.

I can’t believe the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are the shared connection between Marvel (same ooze that mutated them gave Daredevil his powers), DC (guest characters in Injustice 2), Street Fighter (this), and Mortal Kombat (MK characters were also guest characters in Injustice 2).

We inch EVER SO SLIGHTLY towards MK x Street Fighter. They were Injustice characters. Even having the skin is a big deal
